In this concept sort activity, students are given 12 stories that can be modeled with linear functions. Students then need to match the number that represents the slope (rate) of the story, the y-intercept (start) of the story, the independent variable, the dependent variable, and the function. Additionally, students identify what words and phrases gave them clues to help identify the slope and the y-intercept of the story. This can be done individually, with partners, or in small groups.
