This worksheet uses dominoes to show students numbers 1-20 in dot notation. The student is then able to count these dots to make numbers larger than 20, and show the many ways the numbers can be made. For example: 1 + 2 + 3 = 6 OR 2 + 1 + 3 + 6, but for numbers that are more than 20.

Subitizing using 5s
Using dots (maximum of 5 in a row) students will quickly learn to recognise up to 25, without counting. Start by showing just the first 5 slides in order, then in random order. Students should be encouraged to say how many there are without counting. Once the first 5 slides are mastered, slowly introduce the next 5. Done regularly, students will be learning many incidental addition and subtraction facts, they will be consolidating counting by 5s and consolidating bonds of 10 and 20.

Roll a die, draw the dots, write the complement of 10. Great center activity to review sums of 10. Partner game or independent. Contains a second page to draw attention to the turnaround facts. Use a tens frame or Cuisenaire rods to support lower students in finding the complement.

Number Recognition: Students roll a dice, count the dots, then find the corresponding number on the butterflies and flowers. Kids keep playing until all the numbers are marked.
Addition: Students roll 2 dice, find the sum of the dots. They use a dabber or marker to find the sum among the butterflies and flowers. Kids keep playing until all the numbers are marked.
Kids could play independently, with a partner, or you could use for a small guided group lesson.
