City Design Project

This project was used in my high school Geometry class after direct instruction of transversals, parallel lines, corresponding angles, etc. This was used as an assessment and student were encouraged to use their notes. Student work was displayed around the classroom until the end of the unit. The sticker file I have included can be printed on sticker sheets or on plain paper and then glued to their project sheets. If you do not use sticker paper then edit the instruction accordingly.

Slopes of Parallel and Perpendicular Lines: An Inquiry-Based Exploration

This is an inquiry-based learning activity used to teach students of the properties of the slopes of parallel lines and the slopes of perpendicular lines. This activity is best used before going too in-depth with the algebraic properties of parallel and perpendicular lines as it allows students to discover, on their own terms, these properties. The papers are arranged so that you may print the graphing activities on one sheet of paper and the questions on another. Have students put papers side b

Drought Dilemma: Real-World Algebra Project on Linear Equations & Systems

Bring mathematics to life with this rigorous, real-world project where students act as members of Illinois’ Emergency Water Management Council. Faced with a drought and a limited water supply, students must model, graph, and solve to recommend fair water distributions between urban populations, farmers, and ecosystems. Perfect for Algebra 1, Algebra Concepts, Pre-Algebra, or interdisciplinary STEM units. What Students Will Do: Write and interpret linear equations from authentic real-world s

This project is great to do after a unit on parallel lines and special angle pairs in geometry. The project tests students' understanding of congruent and non-congruent alternate interior and exterior angles, consecutive interior and exterior angles, and corresponding angels. Students are told where to place buildings with "clues" such as the "gas station and a restaurant at congruent alternate exterior angles". This project allows for a lot of creativity and critical thinking!

7TH/8TH GRADE MATH PROJECT- Create a town map

Create a town map on a poster by two parallel lines cut by a transversal. Students will follow a list of directions to place buildings in appropriate places according to angle relationships.

All About Graphing lines project

This project is designed for students in an Algebra 1 class. It is a book that the students create to examine a discuss all the aspects of graphing lines. They have to incorporate how to solve for slope, the difference between parallel and perpendicular lines, the 3 different equations of lines, rise over run and much more. This is a great project for students to master how to graph a line and for understanding what a slope is.

Writing Linear Equations project Students are given the slope of a line and one point on the line. Students use the given information to complete a chart containing y-intercept, the linear equation of the line in y=mx+b format. Students will also determine which lines are parallel to one another. This activity can be done independently or in small groups.

A fun Authentic Assessment!! I made this for my 5th grade math student to be given as a pre-assessment and post-assessment for 2-D shapes and parallel/perpendicular lines. It also tests quadrilaterals and parallelograms. Check out my other product which is the grading rubric for the GeoTown assignment.

This is a pre-test (and I use it as a post text as well) on basic taxicab geometry and the Pythagorean Theorem. It goes along with a project I have posted called Movin' On Up which is a project in which the students draw a city map using parallel and perpendicular lines to calculate multiple questions using taxicab and Euclidean distance. I have left the pictures and numbers off so you can determine how easy or difficult the test should be.

Tap, Tap, Transversal

This is an alternative to the amazing "Dance, Dance, Transversal" available from other sellers. In a small classroom with over 40 students, it is difficult to make space for each student to dance their way into a knowledge of the angle pairs formed by parallel lines and transversals. So I make them dance with their hands instead of their feet. Each student receives a copy of this and you project the "Dance, Dance, Transversal video of your choice. I usually have the students in groups of 5. Four
