This handout is intended for those interested in teaching/learning basic introductory statistics concepts to analyze real data. Students will learn how to tell a story using secondary data analysis. The handout is for Python and the US Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health data set. For handouts, the data set code book and raw data file, a PowerPoint to accompany the handout, or questions please email kristin.flaming@gmail.com or ldierker@wesleyan.edu. This project walks students through the entire process of doing their own statistical investigation during a 6th-grade statistics unit. Each student creates a question, gathers data, analyzes what they find, and explains their conclusions. As they learn new ideas in class, they put them to use right away in their own project. I created this as a way for students to practice the topics they were learning, while also giving them a chance to explore something that genuinely interests them.
This is a rubric I use for an end of unit project on statistics. Students work in groups, select a product they want to improve, create a survey, conduct the survey, analyze the data collected to market a new (improved) product. Students create a powere point or prezi to hold a marketing meeting for the class. Key Terms: sample size, population.
Directions and Grading Rubric for Quick and Easy Project to review statistical questions, measures of center, measures of spread, mean absolute deviation, box plots, histograms, stem and leaf plots, line plots, dot plots.
A Statistics assignment which assesses the students on foundational content (mean, mode, median) through to 10A curriculum (standard deviation and outliers). Includes marking criteria and rubric.
Can be used with 5th grade Envisions math program topic 14 as a project and/or end of topic assessment. This is editable so you can tailor it to meet your needs. Rubric included.
A sampling project for your middle school students. Have the students investigate various forms of sampling (systematic, voluntary-response, convenience and random). Allows for student creativity and for analysis about survey bias. Rubric including for scoring.
This project requires students to collect data and display it using various visual displays. Students will create a dot plot, bar graph, box and whiskers plot and frequency table. The project includes instructions, grading rubric and a table for collecting signatures of their population.
This project reviews the data analysis unit for A.P. Statistics. Data collected from students will be their height and shoe size. The file includes the project description page to be handed to students along with a rubric. Included are the step-by-step Excel directions on analyzing the data and creating histograms. The project also includes an investigation on the correlation between height and shoe size. This portion of the project may work for Algebra 2 teachers wishing to review the least squ
Students will create a survey topic, collect data. Students will create a histogram, box plot, check for normal distribution, use empirical rule and much more in this project. Students will do a presentation using power point, prezi, etc. Rubric included.
This is a powerpoint file to use in conjunction with google forms. The first thing you will need to do is create a copy of the google forms for each of the questions, the links to pre-made Google Forms are included. Now that you have the forms set up and the QR codes made. Print each of these cards on color paper and place them around the room. Students will travel to each card and complete the task. At the end of the activity take the time to summarize the results with the students. Project t
Students will create their own online survey through an online platform. They will create their own survey questions in order to poll 3 different middle school classes. From here, students gather data, draw conclusions and correlations and create their own histograph. This is followed by a brief response. Complete with success criteria and rubric.
This is a great project for students to do at the beginning of a HS statistics class. It will open their eyes to statistics in the media and provides real world interpretation of material learned the first couple weeks of class. The best part - You get lots of decorations for your wall and material to use as you progress through descriptive statistics!
Package includes instructions for teacher, including CCSM standards and objectives; student handout outlining specifics of the project; gradi

This is an activity that students do over 2-3 days as they are learning to do 1 proportion z tests. On competition day you have students in groups of 3, each representing a team, doing 1 prop z tests. Each one is either trying to reject Ho, show that the other team's test is flawed, or judging (with a worked out answer sheet). Then they change roles and repeat the process with another test. This could serve as a fun and different formative (or summative) assessment. Similar material coming out
