Design an Efficient Manufacturing Floor: An Intro to Geometry Project

Students will step into the role of engineers tasked with designing the layout of a new manufacturing facility. The layout must be efficient, safe, and functional - just like real factories that assemble electronics, cars, appliances, or packaged goods. To accomplish this, students will apply core intro to geometry concepts: Points, lines, and segmentsParallel and perpendicular linesAngle types and angle measuresPolygons (triangles, rectangles, quadrilaterals)Distance and midpointBasic construct

This animated time line project example will introduce your students to multi-tier / parallel time lines as well as allow them to "present" themselves to their classmates and their teacher. I normally start this project early in the school year as an "ice braker." Each year example is individually animated and introduced so that the concept of parallel time lines is explained in detail to the students. The embedded hyperlinks will allow for additional Social Studies introduction/review. Includ

Geogebra TM Exploration of Parallel and Perpendicular Lines

This exercise guides students through an exploration of theorems involving parallel, perpendicular and transversal lines. The step-wise approach also allows students to become familiar with the functions available on Geogebra TM, an open domain software and fee app. Students will record findings on handout and also produce a hard copies of Geogebra TM sketches. Subsequent projects and exercises will rely on this introductory use of Geogebra TM.
