Motion Diagram / Motion Map Activity: Monsters in the School

Created by
Superposition
This is a Halloween themed self-paced "choose your own adventure" type activity were you are searching for various monsters in the school in order to capture them. This is done by analysing motion maps / motion diagrams. There are three motions featured in this activity: constant motion, increasing (speeding up), and decreasing (slowing down). After you determine what the motion is, you are asked to calculate where to put the "trap" in order to catch the monster.

Phase Changes Diagram

In this activity, students will be able to label a diagram showing how materials change state by adding or removing heat, which changes the kinetic energy of the atoms in that material. Students will label the steps of each phase change (melting, boiling/vaporization, sublimation, condensation, freezing and deposition). Students will understand the main concepts that as you add heat, the kinetic energy of the atoms increases. As you remove heat, the kinetic energy of the atoms decreases. H

NGSS Expectation:MS-PS1-4: Develop a model that predicts and describes the changes in particle motion, temperature, and state of a pure substance when thermal energy is added or removed. This lab has students making observations of what happens to the volume of fluids as the temperature (kinetic energy of molecules) increase and decreases. They will observe the movement of died water in a test tube and measure the volume difference from when the test tube of died water is heated and when it is c

Conservation of Mass LabNo matter what, matter cannot be created or destroyed. This simple statement is the Law of Conservation of Mass. Basically, the law states that in a chemical reaction, whatever mass you had before is still there afterwards, just in a new form. However, knowing this law, how can we make sense of the following observations? A birthday cake has less mass than the ingredients that were put into the ovenSteel wool increases in mass when it burns in air.As a candle burns, its m
