This activity guides the learner in finding the surface area of a 3-D object (cube). TLW classifies the 3-D object by labeling its edges, faces, and vertices. Then, given dimensions and a visual representation of the net of a cube, TLW calculate the area of each face and sum the total for the cube's surface area. I use this resource as an interactive math journal activity for my alternate middle school math class, but it can be used as differentiated notes, quiz, or for reinforcement or review.

Students SORT fraction word problems into categories for adding/subtracting/multiplying/dividing. This has helped me tremendously. Before I did this activity, I had students failing a quiz where they had to solve problems with fractions. They could not figure out which operation to use to solve the problem. I had my students retake the quiz after doing this activity over 3 or 4 days. Grades improved!!!!!! There are 32 questions broken down into either 2 or 4 different sorting activities.
