Graphic Organizer (Flipbook) NOTES - Solving Equations

Created by
MrsEasyAsPi
Notes created as a step by step explanation/example of how to solve equations. I use this in my 8th grade level class but it is completely editable and comments/examples can be adapted for your specific use, or to use as is. In most types of equations students can find which tab of the flipbook looks like their equation then start on that tab and complete each of the following steps in order until the equation is solved. Most of the time students have the capacity to solve an equation given to

Math With Mrs B
This worksheet is great to use when teaching a unit on functions. The students are required to fill in the tables, classify each function as linear, quadratic or exponential, and then create a rule for the function. This activity has a fun "twist" with the function tables being labeled as the names of teachers that the students have outside of math. The word document is easily editable, so it is possible to change the names if desired! My students loved it!

Graphing Systems of Mixed Equations Worksheet

This Graphing Systems of Mixed Equations worksheet helps students practice solving systems that are not already in slope-intercept form. Students must first solve each equation for y, then graph the lines and determine the point of intersection. Students will: Rewrite equations in slope-intercept form (y = mx + b) Graph each equation on a coordinate plane Identify where the lines intersect Write the solution as an ordered pair (x, y) The worksheet includes bilingual directions in Englis

Murder Mystery: Simplifying Expressions Using Exponent Rules

This is a self-checking activity that I used with my students after teaching them how to simplify expressions involving exponents using the multiplication rule, division rule, power to a power rule, and the zero exponent rule. There are no negative exponents in this activity. Students complete each problem and then look for their answer on the suspect/weapon/location list. When they find that answer, they put an X in the space next to it as it will not be a part of the final solution to our my

Analyzing Winning Olympic Speed Skating Times: Linear Regression

In this exercise, the student is asked to make a scatter plot of a set of two variable data (the winning times in the women’s long-track Olympic speed skating contests from 1960 to 2018) and draw a line of fit, by hand. Then the student is asked to find the equation of their line of fit. Next, the student is asked to use a graphing utility to repeat this exercise and compare the result to their “by-hand” attempt. This exercise provides an opportunity to develop an intuitive understanding of line
