Hobbs Got Out!! Darn That Dog!! - Calculus Postion/Velocity/Acceleration

Created by
Kathleen Hein
An activity that investigates average velocity, instantaneous velocity, average acceleration, and instantaneous acceleration. Our dog Hobbs got out and ran down the street and we investigate his position, velocity and acceleration. Students will use their calculators to find derivatives and graph the position, velocity and acceleration. The activity provides a real world problem to investigate the relationships between functions and their derivatives.

This product provides a summary of how to recognize quadratic relationships in multiple representations including symbolic representations (equations & functions), tabular representations (tables), graphical representations (graphs), and contextual/verbal representations (words/stories). This is a good "overview" of quadratic relationships, giving students the "big picture." It is also a useful reference for higher-level math students who have not focused on quadratics recently (Algebra 2, Pre
