Scaffolded practice dividing by one digit
Struggling students seem to have less working memory than those who excel at math. These students have difficulty remembering the steps of an algorithm and math facts simultaneously, especially in long division. All students can master division if their practice is designed to lessen the load on working memory. This is why I have students use the same divisor for an entire practice set and write the multiplication table for that divisor at the top of their practice page. I also begin teaching t
