Literary Nonfiction Student Reading Aids for any book in this genre

This download includes the following teacher instructions, a handout/poster of the elements/characteristics of literary nonfiction, and a student response sheet which is applicable to all literary nonfiction books. Understanding genres can be difficult, especially going beyond simply fiction and nonfiction. Literary nonfiction (also known as creative nonfiction) is especially tricky because of the grey area it occupies between fiction and nonfiction. At first works of literary nonfiction may a

Chapter Summary Bookmark

This bookmark is designed to be copied double sided to accommodate 12 chapters. The students must determine the most important plot point in the chapter and summarize it in one sentence. Recording each chapter summary in one place helps students to remember each turn in the plot. This is a great activity for scaffolding struggling readers to summarize an entire book. At the end of the book, you can ask students to pick the four or five most important chapters and write them as a paragraph.

My own education history

My second grade teacher is the one who inspired me to be a teacher. Her love for learning was contagious! My K-8 years were at a suburban public school. I completed ninth grade at a private school and ultimately finished my high school diploma as a home school student through Indiana University's high school distance learning program. I have a variety of experiences as both a student and teacher in many settings.

Additional biographical information

I joined TpT as a source of income while I taught poor and orphaned children in Guatemala!
