Typing is Not for Turtles: Where to place fingers for faster typing Most of my elementary students could type decently by pecking with 2 fingers before beginning the class. To get them interested, I emphasized how much FASTER they could type by using every finger and proper hand placement, which is how the title "Typing is Not for Turtles" came about. If that's too cheesy for your classroom, the Powerpoint is editable. This download is a Powerpoint of 12 slides (plus the intro slide), each wit

This product contains 10 days of Spanish 1 bell work (or bell ringer) to begin the class at the beginning of the year. The start of a language class can be intimidating and overwhelming because of all the new information. This bell work is for those first couple of weeks, when students know practically nothing about Spanish except what they have seen at Taco Bell. The tasks are fairly simple and are meant to encourage students instead of overwhelm. The Powerpoint is editable so that you can d

About the store

Experience

I jumped around for awhile before deciding that art was where I wanted to stay. I have been a teacher's aide, long-term substitute, classroom teacher, tutor, and summer camp teacher for grades K-12. I have taught art, computer, foods and nutrition, Bible, and after-school science. My store name -- Amalgamate -- came about because I like to mix and unite my favorite things instead of sticking to one area.

Teaching style

There are 4 core things that I want students to receive in art class: an appreciation for art, knowledge of the basic fundamentals of design, development of skills, and the confidence to be creative. Art is one subject where it is okay to make mistakes, and I allow students to try techniques and ideas for themselves rather than show them how a project should look. Otherwise, they will simply copy me rather than learn for themselves. I believe encouraging creativity builds on students’ problem-solving skills that will carry over to other areas.

Awards & shining teacher moments

A principal gave me the "Lifesaver Award" for coming in at the middle of the school year to teach Computer Skills when they had no one.

My own education history

BFA in Visual Art, concentration in painting and drawing

Additional biographical information

My other interests include gardening, crafts, health and nutrition, reading, baking, writing, and watching stand-up comedy shows.
