Introduction to Printmaking

Created by
Arty Aus
A visual introduction to the history of printmaking, and a brief outline of the different types of printmaking to help students understand the different effects they can achieve. I use this for my Year 7 students, to introduce them to the basics of printmaking before starting a foam board printing unit looking at landscapes focused on the works of Hundertwasser. This presentation also introduces students to the types of lines and shapes that students can use when creating their artworks.

Inspired by the drawings of Artist M.C Escher, this activity is a step-by-step guide to drawing an impossible triangle illusion. This could be used in an art or maths context to provide a fun lesson break. I use it as part of an illusion printmaking unit with my students, after talking to them about the work of M.C Escher, and the connection between art and maths. This Art & Illusion Unit is a bundle of resources that I created for a lino printmaking unit, however, it would also work well as the beginning of an illusion drawing unit. It includes: An introduction to art & illusion - paired with an illusion art activity where students are challenged to create morphing drawings. An introduction to the artist M.C Escher - paired with a drawing activity (step-by-step) for students to create their own impossible triangle illusion.

A fun activity for students to complete focusing on branding/logos from a Pop Art Perspective. Students follow the instructions and look at the examples provided to create their own cropped pop art style drawing or artwork. This activity also works well as an independent cover lesson to be left for a substitute teacher, all they'll need is coloured pencils. Students produce really bold, bright, effective results from following this process.

Perfect for a cover/sub lesson! This art making activity asks students to use the image prompts provided to draw something creative and unexpected. Students are given parts of an animal illustration, and asked to create an unusual artwork that and AI wouldn't be able to generate, ie. thinking outside the box. A fun lesson, that works as an excellent conversation starter on the role of AI in or modern world, and the impact this might have on artists.

A fun stand-alone activity, or fits within my illusion artmaking unit of work. It would also be a fun sub lesson for students to complete independantly. Students learn about the concept of morphing (blending one object into another). Students are challenged to draw how they would blend together unrelated drawings, before moving on to creating their own morphed design. Mentioned Resources: This is an activity that is part of my 'Introduction to Illusion Art' presentation (Available on my store
