Preview of M.C Escher Artist Introduction

M.C Escher Artist Introduction

Created by
Arty Aus
This presentation explores the work of artist M.C Escher. Students begin by discussing the concept of left-brain & right-brain people (myth) and then discuss the link between maths and art. Terms such as symmetry and tesselation are defined and explored in relation to the artmaking practise on Escher. This presentation includes links to videos discussing his work, moving illusions, and a step-by-step activity where students learn to draw an impossible triangle illusion. Mentioned Activities:

The Impossible Triangle Drawing Activity

Inspired by the drawings of Artist M.C Escher, this activity is a step-by-step guide to drawing an impossible triangle illusion. This could be used in an art or maths context to provide a fun lesson break. I use it as part of an illusion printmaking unit with my students, after talking to them about the work of M.C Escher, and the connection between art and maths. Art & Illusion Unit/Activities

This Art & Illusion Unit is a bundle of resources that I created for a lino printmaking unit, however, it would also work well as the beginning of an illusion drawing unit. It includes: An introduction to art & illusion - paired with an illusion art activity where students are challenged to create morphing drawings. An introduction to the artist M.C Escher - paired with a drawing activity (step-by-step) for students to create their own impossible triangle illusion.
