This engaging activity is the perfect introduction to capacity and measurement units or the perfect addition to math centers. Students work with a partner and take turns flipping over a pumpkin card onto the numbered mats. Students then predict which pumpkin will hold more seeds and record their predictions on the recording sheet. I give my students real pumpkin seeds so they can test their findings! They love this activity! The differentiated version challenges students to take their learning a

These challenge cards were created as a way to differentiate my Common Core Math Meetings (found in my store). I cut out challenge cards 1-10 and put them on a ring. My fast finishers who perform consistently well on the Math Meetings and need a challenge grab a ring of challenge cards. If they finish a problem quickly during the Math Meeting, they can do the activity listed on the challenge card under the same number and write it next to their original answer. This is a wonderful way to keep al
Uh Oh! Sam has escaped! Can you help him get back to his mat? Students will sort the addition equations as “true” or “false”. There is a recording sheet included where students can record their answers and prove their reasoning with illustrations. This activity correlates with Reading Street Story 1.1 “Sam, Come Back!” but can be used in any classroom, regardless of reading series! It meets the 1st Grade Common Core Standard 1.OA.D.7. Enjoy! :)
