I am a full professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO), the creator of the Bricklayer ecosystem and co-founder of Bricklayer.org. The mission of bricklayer.org is to actively contribute to the creation of an environment in which education in computational thinking, coding, math, art and the development of spatial abilities can be achieved across the K12 spectrum (and beyond) using educational models that are engaging, effective, sustainable and scalable.

Additional biographical information

Beyond Bricklayer, my area of expertise is programming languages. Central to my research interests is the construction of code in a manner that facilitates its understanding. Prior to accepting a position at UNO I was a Principle Member of the Technical Staff (PMTS) at Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) where I was the lead for the High-Integrity Software project. SNL deals with ultra high-consequence, oftentimes one-of-a-kind, systems. For such systems it is essential to be able to make strong predictive statements about their behavioral profile prior to fielding the system. Such concerns form, motivate, and inspire the basis for my interest in reasoning about computation.
