Chasing Ideas

This activity shows the difference between weather and climate, including examples for students to use for comparison. I usually lecture, or show a quick video before beginning. It takes about 15-20 minutes depending on additional videos/lectures. This can be done as a class or independently. For the last question, you can use this with my (free) climate zones worksheet, the internet, or edit it out. I didn't post an answer key, but can if someone needs it.

This is everything you need to have students complete vocabulary words for each school day, topic, and/or section. There are three tabs -Tab 1, is the complete list of vocabulary words. Tab 2, is the student page section so they can complete definitions for vocabulary words, and their summarized definition. Tab 3, is the definition page for all of the words. This project is about bringing awareness to environmental issues. Sections include choosing a topic, finding a law/organization related to the issue, and writing a letter in support/opposition of the issue. **There is a sample calendar at the bottom of the page, which you can alter or delete, depending on your needs.

At the beginning of the semester, I had students choose a Ted Talk for the class to watch (I would show one or two per week depending on how many students were in each class). There were certain requirements that had to be met regarding their choice (listed on template) and I would review each video. This vocabulary test has 100 common words covered in earth science classes. Answer key is at the bottom, so make sure you don't print that portion for your students.

This is a simple graphic organizer to help students take notes.

This activity covers Koppen Climate Classifications, at a basic level. It allows students to annotate information, then use said information to better understand climate zones. For the map portion, students will need a map provided to them or access to the internet so they can research it themselves.
