About the store
This is my 19th year in the classroom. I have taught Language Arts, English, and Yearbook in grades 7-12. I enjoy working with teenagers and igniting their passion for reading, writing, analyzing, and creating. I currently teach sophomore and senior English, although I have experience teaching all grades 7-12. My TPT items are lessons and forms that I use in my own classroom, and all lessons are classroom tested. Additionally, I advise a 400+ page chronological yearbook. It's quite an undertaking. My yearbook forms and rubrics were developed over the years and are used in my classroom each day.

Introduction to Yearbooks, activity for new yearbook students

I advise a 400-page chronological yearbook, and we publish on a year-round basis. Training new staff members at the beginning of the year is important, and it must be done as quickly as possible. This is the first activity I have my new staff members do as an introduction to the parts of a yearbook and some of the terms that we used in publishing. This worksheet is to be used in conjunction with sample yearbooks. I keep 20-30 different yearbooks in my classroom at any time as they serve as good

Yearbook Spread Self Reflection & Grading Rubric (printable and editable formats

I advise the largest chronological yearbook in my state. At 400+ pages, it's very important that we are organized, our pages are completed quickly, and my staff creates excellent spreads. I use this grading rubric the ensure that the spreads my staff submit for publication are nothing short of perfect. The rubric covers writing, design, alignment, photography, quotes, coverage, tagging, and spelling. Additionally, there is space to not whether or not the spread was completed on time. The top pa

Yearbook Staff Deadline Grading Rubric (EDITABLE!)

As a yearbook adviser, I am often tasked with trying to edit pages, supervise a staff, encourage leadership in my editors, and to oversee the publication of a 400-page chronological yearbook. It can get overwhelming to keep all of the staff on task. I created this rubric to keep tabs on each staff member and to encourage them to develop the skills they need to succeed in class and in their lives: *Work habits *Initiative *Independence *Use of time *Teamwork *Work area upkeep *Equipment and press

Yearbook Theme & Cover Planning Activity

In my ten years as the adviser for a 400+ page chronological book, I realized the most important part of creating the book is planning. This is the activity I have used with my editors each spring to create the next year's theme and cover. This is a comprehensive planner that guides staff members through the discovery phase of planning a theme and cover. It encourages them to think about the individual personality of their school and how that converts into a one-of-a-kind yearbook that you and y

Yearbook Editor Self-Assessment & Grading Rubric

I advise a large (400-page) chronological yearbook. I have five editors who are in charge of making sure that we cover all students, sports, clubs, and activities that happen -- on and off campus. It's a daunting task for any student, and it fosters many skills that they will use to succeed in any path they choose outside of high school. This is a two-part form; the first part asks the editors to assess their own performance during the deadline. They address their own strengths, weaknesses and

Camera Checkout Form

This form is useful for both the yearbook and photography classrooms. Cameras are the lifeblood of any yearbook staff. It's imperative to have our cameras functioning and ready to go in order to ensure that our staff can cover any event at any moment. I use this form with my own staff to make sure that our cameras are all accounted for and ready to go at a moment's notice. We keep ten working cameras for a staff of 25. Each camera and its related parts are housed in a clear plastic bin, and ea

Managing a yearbook staff can be a daunting task. As an adviser, we are called to do numerous tasks in a short period of time. Therefore, it is imperative that the staff members are productive and on task at all times. I use this Weekly Participation sheet with my own staff, and it helps me keep tabs on what my staff is doing. Yearbook Quote Collections Form

Safeguard yourself and your yearbook staff! I have never had to defend myself or my staff against claims of falsifying a quote in a yearbook, but I am ready if it happens. This quote collection form is one of the ways we proactively protect ourselves. My staff members collect a signature for each and every quote that is used in the 400+ pages of our yearbook. This form is a requirement for all staff members, and I use it as a contributing factor in their grades. Additionally, I keep all forms

Personality Research Webquest, English or Physchology

This is a fun activity that I do with my 12th graders just before they embark on their major research paper. They love it because it is all about them, and I also get the added bonus of teaching them how to use the internet to conduct research, how to document their sources, and how to respond to informational text. Students use computers or comparable technology to take a test and learn their Meyer-Briggs personality profile. From there, the complete research to see how this profile explains

UPDATED! Alien Report: A complete persuasive writing unit (printable & editable)

When I first started teaching persuasive writing, I grew bored of the typical persuasive writing topics. The kids hated them; I got bored grading the essays. Enter The Alien Report. This is absolutely my all-time favorite writing unit that I teach with my students. It gets them out of their writing "shell," cleverly introduces the persuasive writing genre, and, most importantly, lets me find the joy of grading essays again. The download does not contain awatermark. This is a complete unit, divi
