Main Idea Read Aloud Unit

This short Read Aloud unit was created by Comprehension Corner for our classroom teachers to use for one week and then pass the basket along to another teacher at their grade level (traveling lessons). Everything you need is in the basket. Teachers in grades 3-5 used this unit focusing on main idea. It is a great way to stick to one focus and use these as mentor texts in other lessons. Teaching the main idea will increase comprehension in many areas of learning. This is a great resource that

Experience

Julie and Marge have thirty years of combined teaching experience in the public schools. After their classroom years they became Title 1 teachers, focusing the majority of their resources and experience on the teaching of Reading and Writing. During their time as literacy coaches they had the pleasure of reading Read Alouds to grades K-5.

Teaching style

Both Julie and Marge believe that modeling thinking is the most powerful path for teachers to take toward developing readers who love to read and who truly comprehend what they read. Read Alouds are where the modeling takes place in a fun and engaging manor. We are convinced that when children have a book that is not too easy and not too hard, they enjoy practicing the thinking and strategies that the teacher models in Read Alouds.. Practicing what the teacher models in the Read Aloud moves children's fluency and comprehension forward and upward.
