The following question and sentence stems are designed to guide teachers’ questioning during small group instruction or whole group mini-lessons. They were created using wording found in the released 2013 3rd and 4th grade STAAR Reading Assessment.

This game includes 6 revision sentences along with 4 answer choices formatted after the released Writing STAAR test. There is a suggested game format, but the question and answers could be used in a variety of ways, from whole group to small group, a station activity, or warm-up. An important component to using these questions is allowing your students to JUSTIFY their answers.

I created this silly sentence to help my fourth grade students remember the important parts of revision when writing. The sentence uses acronyms to help students recall important mini-lessons done in the classroom for improving their writing through revision. We call it the "zebra" sentence. This download includes a student checklist and "posters" that could be hung in the room. While designed for fourth grade writing, it is also appropriate for third and fifth graders.

The extension allows students to get that extra practice for rounding numbers...and again, represent both numerically and pictorially.
