I give students this worksheet prior to beginning writing workshop. I call it writing territories since it is a way for students to brainstorm and generate ideas about things they could write about if they ever get stumped. I generally do not collect this since it may be personal. It is important for them to know that so that they feel more comfortable with brainstorming personal information.
This workbook includes questions that force students to interact with the text in new and engaging ways: performing close-reading, utilizing visuals, crafting opinion, analyzing craft, comparing non-fiction texts, etc.
This PowerPoint introduces many of the basic parts of speech: noun, common noun, proper noun, pronoun, subject pronoun, object pronoun, adjectives, action verbs, helping verbs, adverbs. There are also slides that directly pair what was learned with IXLs. Thus, many of the practice problems are taken from IXL directly in order to prepare students for their practice. All slides are able to be edited.
