Dan received his Bachelors of Education from the University of Alberta with a major in Mathematics and a minor in Technology. As an educator, Dan focuses on creating educational environments where students construct their own understanding through content creation and discovery in conjunction with technological tools. Dan has served as an Educational Technologist, co-authored university textbook materials on educational technology and received multiple educational technology grants. Most recently, Dan became a proud member of the Apple Distinguished Educator class of 2013.

Congruent Triangles and Shapes Corporate Logo Project
This assignment was developed for the WNCP Math 20-2 Fundamentals of Mathematics course. This project requires students to apply what they have learned about angle and triangle relationships to seek out fundamental design principles used in corporate logos and marketing. Students will seek out a library of logos which employ congruent triangles and/or parallel lines to create their own collection of recognizable shapes. Students take on the role of a theme park planner for this year end project. They follow the guidelines in the assignment to design a theme park using scale factor. They Create rides using linear equations, 2D and 3D geometry, and circle properties. They then explore food creation through fractions, equations, and order of operations. Lastly they explore probabilities and statistics with games of chance and customer feedback surveys.

Students must map out the 10 day trip of a spy. They write 7 calculations to describe the travel and expenses of this international spy and must create a map of his trip fro Calgary to Tokyo to retrieve a microchip with choices along the way.

This project was developed in alignment with the WNCP Canadian grade 11 Math 20-3 curriculum. The project covers all the learning outcomes for the representing objects sections of the course.

Simplifying Polynomials and Art
To complete this project, students will create a visual with the algebra tiles provided to them. When they have created their visual, students will begin to discover the relationships between algebra tiles and polynomial expressions, as well as how to use tiles to simplify polynomials. Ultimately, students should define rules to adding, subtracting and collecting like terms for polynomial expressions.
