Experience

My family and I are returning home to the Seattle area for the 2019-20 school year. I am now a high school math teacher at a high school in the Seattle region, where I will be teaching Algebra and Geometry. In the past, I have been an instructional coach for grades 6 through 12 and taught high school level math in California.

Teaching style

The core of my teaching philosophy is three fold. 1.) Be positive in all we do. Students come from all types of backgrounds. We cannot control the environment they come from or where they go to, but we can control the positivity for the time they are in our classes. 2.) Teach mathematics with structured student discourse in mind. Young mathematicians learn best when they are in an environment where they are expected to talk about the mathematics and relate the content to the real world as they know it. 3.) It's all about that growth mindset. Math is a subject of failure. We may not master the skill today, but everyday I encourage students to, "Become a better mathematician and person today than you were yesterday".
