Finally, there are situations that can be printed out and given to students asking them to think about how they might react to the situation.
This is a project that can be used for a geography class (any type). Students pick a location and then construct a slideshow (or some other type of product) that shows that they can apply the five themes of geography.
A simple Powerpoint featuring some dumb laws from around the United States (most are old laws left on the books). The students get a kick out of it. This is used when covering law & crime in Civics -- or the Judicial Branch.
This is a powerpoint that can be used when students are studying law and jursidiction. I use it as a setup to the Judicial Branch unit, but it could be used in any government or law class.
This package contains 2 extensive powerpoints with corresponding graphic organizers that cover the regions of the United States and regions of Canada in terms of their geography. These are powerpoints that are very useful for giving a decent overview of the regions of each country. My students found them easy to follow.
This is a powerpoint with accompanying handout and answer key suitable for a lesson/notes on the Roots of the American Government. It reviews 6 different aspects of the American government and explains where those ideas came from.
This is a great opening or review activity PPT on what makes a region, a region. It is a series of slides that cover five regions in the world. I ask my students to list what characteristics they see in the groups of slides and then at the end, I show them the region and we discuss the common characteristics that make these perceptual regions.
This includes a powerpoint presentation on the Bill of Rights, a Completed Bill of Rights Chart and an activity which asks students to apply the Bill of Rights.
This powerpoint can be used for a lesson on some basic types of government - Dictatorship, Democracy, and Monarchy. It also includes slides about Elian Gonzalez (a Cuban boy who was in a custody dispute between a dictatorship, Cuba and a democracy, USA). In addition, there are a few slides about Zimbabwe, another famous dictatorship.
This is two powerpoints and a notes sheet with a completed notes sheet. I use this in my public speaking class when we go over writing an introduction and getting the audience's attention. One PPT is called "Did You Know?" It contains a series of interesting facts. This is used to get the class' attention for the lesson. I then use the other powerpoint to go over what is important and how to grab the audience's attention during the introduction. They work well together.
This is a powerpoint which features a series of questions that would be on an AP test for Political Beliefs & Behaviors. My students use whiteboards to answer the questions, but it could easily be done on paper or using teams.
This powerpoint can be used when conducting a lesson about Stereotypes. I relate them to the Common Good and also show a "Seinfeld" episode which asks students to pick out stereotypes.
This is for a lesson on the members of Congress -- it contains vocabulary on basic terms, requirements of Congressmen, and an overall job description. It focuses a bit on the Rhode Island Congressmen, but it could be modified to suit your home state or eliminated. I have included the handout that goes with the powerpoint and also the completed handout.
This is just a powerpoint that shows the logos for different political parties -- I ask students to guess the parties and use it as an opener for the Political parties unit in AP Government. The answer slides are included after the 10 logos.
This is a powerpoint along with a blank and completed handout for notetaking for a chapter on weather, climate, and vegetation in a Geography class. Pretty straightforward.
This is just a simple powerpoint with some tips and suggestions about using props in your speech. I use it in my public speaking class. The powerpoint contains links to videos with examples for some of the tips.
This is a webquest that asks students to navigate to certain websites to find basic information about the Supreme Court. Could be used as an introduction to a unit.
This is based off the app What's the Word Game? Students get four pictures and then need to brainstorm to come up with how the pictures relate to each other. This contains five rounds, each with a different type of Congressional committee. I tried it in class and the students enjoyed it, something different that changes the pace.
