In this religious education lesson students examine representations of heaven, hell, and angels and describe saints and cultural traditions surrounding death. Halloween, All Saints Day, All Souls Day, and Dia de los Muertos are built into this lesson as cultural references. Students will look at these traditions in a whole new light.
This lesson could be easily adapted for older students by adjusting the vocabulary section.
Students draw a representation of heaven and hell and describe what
Sidewalk chalk, paints, and apples serve as hooks for teaching both the Creation Story and Adam and Eve. Students will draw a representation of the creation story with sidewalk chalk, craft with apple prints, learn an apple prayer song, and more. This lesson can be modified to stand alone or can follow Lesson 1: Prayer.
This 90 min introductory lesson on prayer is designed to be used in a K-2 Christian catechism or vacation bible school class. It includes a coloring page, a chant, a song, and a discussion on when, where, why, and how a person prays. Finally, there is a historical tie-in between the history of the pretzel and prayer. Your students won't forget this lesson!
