About the store
I am starting my fifteenth year in education! Whew! I started my career teaching adult basic education to teenage mothers at an Early Head Start. From there, I taught 4th and 5th grades at a private school for six years. I then moved out of the classroom into an instructional coaching role. I helped both new and veteran teachers integrate research-based best practices into their instruction. While I loved working with teachers, my heart remained with the students. After I had my own children, I wanted my "teacher hours" back, so I went back into the classroom in a public school teaching 3rd grade for a number of years. This year, I'm mixing it up a little and trying out 2nd! Wish me luck!

Student Self-Assessment Posters Signs 3-2-1
These are student self-assessment posters I display in the classroom. I usually print them on red, yellow, and green card stock - green for 3, yellow for 2, and red for 1. At various points during instruction, I have the students hold up 3, 2, or 1 fingers to show how they're feeling about the objectives being addressed. I also have students write 3, 2, or 1 in the upper corner of their independent work before they hand it in.

Character Traits and Actions Graphic Organizer Reading Response
This is a graphic organizer or readers' response template for character traits. It can be used with biographies or fiction. Students generate character traits for characters based on their actions.
2nd - 4th

Native Americans Sort - Powhatan, Pueblo, Lakota
This is a basic sort for our Native Americans unit using the VA State Standards. It includes the most important information about the Powhatan, Pueblo, and Lakota tribes. Students cut the descriptors and sort under the appropriate headers.

This is my classroom display for students' voice control. I usually laminate and glue the arrow to a clothes pin and then clip it on where I want my students' voice levels to be.

This is a silent reading guide for students to practice their reading strategies. It can be used during students' independent reading or guided reading.

Biography Graphic Organizer
This is a graphic organizer or readers' response for biographies. Students identify setting & how it affects the character, character traits, obstacles, influences, and achievements.

Multiplication and Division Inverse Relationship & Models Table
This is a multiplication and division chart I made for additional practice and assessment after students learned about the inverse relationship between multiplication and division, and they had learned several models for representing each. I wanted something to put all those skills together in one document. It can easily be differentiated by making the problems more or less challenging.

This is a basic template students can use for independent or guided nonfiction readers' response. Students take a "sneak peek", notice details, put details together for new learning, and ask questions.

Teaching style
I'm fortunate to have received some extraordinary professional development throughout the years. I teach Readers' and Writers' Workshop using Columbia University's Teachers College research and strategies. I also use arts integration through tableau and visual arts.
I like to think I'm a bit unconventional, and I love to try new things. I believe children learn best when they construct their own knowledge about the world around them within their own learning styles.
