Experience

Hi, my name is Paige Richards and for the last 4 years I have had the privilege of teaching 6th and 4th grade in California. I have taught students in low-income neighborhoods who are not receiving the quality of education they deserve. Through my experience teaching and fueled by my desire to meet the needs of these students I have started creating math problems grounded in concrete, real life examples.

Teaching style

I teach with a mix of direct instruction, facilitative methods and coaching, with more emphasis on the latter two methods. At the core of my teaching philosophy I believe that effective teaching requires productive struggle and student reflection on the information given.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I received the math achievement award by my district because of the increase in student math scores on California state testing.

My own education history

Both my parents are teachers and I grew up with a love for learning and an awareness of the possibilities education provides. I minored in Chicano/a studies, studied abroad in Mexico and quickly learned about the huge education disparities in low-income communities. I graduated college and went straight to the classroom, eager to engage in the education disparity I saw. My first year of teaching was incredibly humbling.
