I taught 4th grade at a high-poverty school in Nashville for two years. I taught a combined 1st/2nd grade class before moving to first grade for the next few years. I looped up to second grade for the 2015-2016 school year! Now, I get to revisit all these grades again as an English Language Learner coteacher!

Moon Observation Journal

This is a way of giving some structure for your students to observe the moon phases and document what they see. Students are given a circle as well as space for the date of the entry and space for the name of the phase. If you copy the journal double-sided, you can get them to observe an entire lunar cycle.

Upper Elementary is all about factors, factors, factors -- and sometimes we don't even realize it! Students can practice their knowledge of factors by playing Factor Wars. This game is played just like the traditional game war, except that there are separate cards for factors and products. Students will reinforce their math skills up to multiplication facts of 12 (and 13, if you include all the cards).

Students are responsible for a visual that draws on their knowledge of polygons as well as small written pieces explaining plot, character, characters, and setting of their made up world.
