About the store
13 years full-time teaching Geography (Earth/Social/Environmental Sciences). Seven of those years as Head of Department. I have been fortunate that my career so far has led to amazing professional development, such as organising field trips as close as the Norfolk Coast and as far away as Yellowstone National Park. In 2013 I was part of a group who worked with teachers in Malawi. In 2017-18 I went on a year-long sabbatical, mostly in the United States. I spent two months in Colorado working with climate scientists at NOAA, and two months in California working at the Exploratorium museum in San Francisco. My experiences were shared via my blog at Geogramblings.com, which also acts as a resource bank for other teachers.

Urban sustainability: Ideas from the Solar Decathlon 2017

I had the opportunity to visit the Solar Decathlon in Denver 2017. I put together this resource to match the part of most GCSE Geography syllabuses that focus on urban growth and sustainability. Some slides are region-based (east of England) and for the AQA syllabus, but the main learning objectives are very relevant for a range of scales and locations. This PowerPoint can be used front-facing; as an independent learning resource or flipped homework task. I strongly recommend you search for and

Our GCSE (senior) students need to get their teeth into detailed case studies for their exams, so we try to structure resources in a way that allows them to summarise complex and specific information. Here the students use video, images and factual to explore the impacts and responses to Hurricane Sandy. This is a legacy resource and will no longer be updated, and so has been permanently discounted down to $0.99. If you really like this resource and want to support me a little more, please consi

A whole lesson. Part of a wider scheme of work about glaciers and glacial landscapes. Happy to offer this out for free to all, partially due to it containing a little commercial material that is not mine (e.g Scrat! Though I did enjoy photo-shopping him!), but also a shameful plug for the video we took on a field trip to western USA! Virtual London Field Trip

We take our Year 9 students (8th Graders) to London each year, and there are a handful of those who don't go. So I invested a few hours into turning our trip into a virtual tour. Students take an urban-transect of London, 'visit' the London Docklands, walk along the riverside and see sites from London Eye. This is a legacy resource and will no longer be updated, and so has been permanently discounted down to $0.99. If you really like this resource and want to support me a little more, please con

As part of a unit on China. Collated information from the IPCC report in 2007. Students analyse this, plus some political cartoons I found to talk about the links between climate change and Asia. This is a bit old now, so will be on permanent discount! If you really like this resource and want to support me a little more, please consider also buying me a 'coffee'! :) Asia & Climate Change by Kit Rackley is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 Internatio

A virtual tour of the Ecotech (Green Britain) Centre in the UK, for those who can't go there for real! A good exploration of sustainability. Update: Sadly, the Centre closed down in February 2019. This is the only way to now 'visit' it!This is a legacy resource and will no longer be updated, and so has been permanently discounted down to $0.99. Experience

My experiences were shared via my blog at Geogramblings.com, which also acts as a resource bank for other teachers.

Teaching style

Active, sometimes dramatic! (Also have a drama background). I usually like to steer away from using textbooks, but do see the value of them with some learning objectives and lessons. I aim to be very visual, interactive and creative with my resources.I am a total digital geek - and like to use GIS and social media in learning (e.g. Twitter and Facebook).

Awards & shining teacher moments

My work has often been used as examples of outstanding practise within my regional network (Norfolk, UK). In 2013 and 2016 I led the Geography department at my school to the UK's Geographical Association's Secondary Geography Quality Mark (SGQM) National Award and Centre of Excellence, in which lesson provision, planning and materials formed a substantial part (see the GA SGQM page.). I have articles published in national educational magazines and give talks, lectures, training and CPD to teachers and trainee teachers nation-wide.

My own education history

A degree in Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia, UK (2001-2004). Completed my teacher training in 2005.

Additional biographical information
