Groundwork Learning Press

I have been teaching elementary mathematics in Ontario for over a decade. I've watched the classroom change. The widening gap between students who arrive ready and those who are missing foundational skills they need before the year can truly begin. That gap is what drove me to build Groundwork Learning Press.

I believe in building foundations before racing forward. Every concept in math depends on something that came before it. When those earlier skills are shaky, everything that follows becomes harder than it needs to be. My resources are designed to diagnose where students are, fill the gaps that are holding them back, and build the confidence that comes from actually knowing the material.

The moments that stick with me are not the test scores. They are the students who came in convinced they were bad at math and left knowing they just had gaps. Watching a kid finally understand fractions after years of avoiding them, or lock in their multiplication facts and feel the whole subject open up. That is what this work is for.

I was that kid. Math never clicked for me growing up, not because I wasn't capable, but because I was missing pieces I didn't even know I was missing. It was a struggle I carried for years. When I started teaching, something unexpected happened. The concepts finally opened up. Explaining math to students forced me to understand it at a deeper level than I ever had as a student. That experience shapes everything I build. I know what it feels like to be lost in math, and I know what it feels like when it finally makes sense.

I am a father of three elementary school aged children. Building these resources is not just something I do as a teacher. It is something I do for them. I want my own kids to have the foundations they need before the year begins, and I want every student who uses these materials to have the same fighting chance. That is what Groundwork Learning Press is built on.
