Students will learn to analyze different elements of theatrical staging. They will learn about Anne Bogart and an overview of her artistic ideals. They will participate in discussions of Anne Bogart’s Viewpoints method.
Students will learn about the various jobs that it takes to run a theatre company. They will have access to an interactive presentation with real life examples of these theatrical careers, including websites, videos, and job applications.
Students will learn about the roles within and purpose of a production team. They will review what it means to analyze a play and build on the idea of creating a design concept. They will recognize what elements go into creating a concept statement. Students will be able to recognize the difference between conceptual and background research and how each can be translated into an image morgue. They will apply the steps of play analysis, creating a concept statement, and doing both background and
Students will learn to use their imagination in creating characters. They will learn Konstantin Stanislavski’s ideas of character analysis. They will apply the steps of character analysis on their own, and then learn when to apply imagination in cultivating a character further.
Students will learn to analyze characters in theatrical scripts. They will learn about objectives, obstacles, and tactics. They will participate in exercises to help them use evidence from a script to analyze a character.
Students will learn to score monologues. They will learn Sanford Meisner’s ideas of punctuation, beats, and tactics. They will recognize the evolution of their monologue performance through scoring a monologue. They will apply the steps of monologue scoring on their own.
Students will learn about The Hendricks Method. They will be able to identify Freddie Hendricks’s ideas of devising, spirituality, and hyper-ego. They will learn about the Youth Ensemble of Atlanta and see some example performances.
