My last name is Hatch--but Hatchling Learning isn't only derived from my last name. I named my business after my teaching philosophy.
When a hatchling is in the process of emerging, it can be a slow, almost painful process to watch. But you can't interfere, you must let them keep pushing on and do the work on their own. The work they do to get out of the egg is the work that prepares their bodies for the conditions of the world outside.
In my teaching, I take this approach. I believe in letting students do the work to learn. As they do the work, they develop necessary understanding and skills to keep pressing forward in life and to be successful. As a teacher or parent sometimes it's hard to watch and we can interfere only so much as to help them keep pressing on but the student must do the work and is accountable for his/her own learning. That's where the real learning occurs!
