About the store
I love education! I am a former elementary school teacher turned homeschooling mom. I teach online part-time from my home. I have come to love online teaching and I loved teaching in the classroom. I really love teaching my own children at home as well. Here in my store I'll share some of the things I used in my face-to-face classroom and in my homeschool. In the product description I will explain whether this is meant to be a homeschooling resource, a classroom resource, or both.

4th Grade Math Journal Prompts for Math Journals or Math Talks

If you're looking for ways to enhance your students' opportunity to reason mathematically--math journals are a fantastic approach--and a foundational tool in my mathematical teaching! Math journals were wildly successful in my math classroom. In fact, they were so successful that I brought them into my homeschool. I have always enjoyed seeing students persevere and problem-solve as well as seeing them work to justify their answers. Writing and discussing mathematics is a powerful teaching tool.

Teaching style

My last name is Hatch--but Hatchling Learning isn't only derived from my last name. I named my business after my teaching philosophy. When a hatchling is in the process of emerging, it can be a slow, almost painful process to watch. But you can't interfere, you must let them keep pushing on and do the work on their own. The work they do to get out of the egg is the work that prepares their bodies for the conditions of the world outside. In my teaching, I take this approach. I believe in letting students do the work to learn. As they do the work, they develop necessary understanding and skills to keep pressing forward in life and to be successful. As a teacher or parent sometimes it's hard to watch and we can interfere only so much as to help them keep pressing on but the student must do the work and is accountable for his/her own learning. That's where the real learning occurs!
