Topics covered are the history of this career cluster, basic principles of design and typography, a project to build a presentation with slides, a group project to build a webpage, and to build an instagram story. This project leads your students through a group project to create a presentation where they teach the class to do a simple task. It meets TEKS for Public Speaking, Communication Applications, Business Communications, and Professional Communications. Students will work together to plan, organize, and present a demonstration to teach the audience a new skill. The unit includes slides, notes, quizzes, rubric, forms for group work evaluation, speech outline, and examples of student work.

This is a week of lessons and activities to help students learn how to communicate professionally. The unit includes nonverbal communication, email communication, professional phone conversations, leaving a professional voicemail, and creating a resume.

This lesson introduces students to how interpersonal relationships begin and develop. The lessons begin with learning how the brain perceives and interprets information and move on to topics including growing relationships and managing conflict in relationships. This unit can be used for speech communications and professional communications. It includes plans, notes, quizzes, projects, class activities, and a writing assignment. This lesson consists of slides and notes to promote understanding of passive and active listening. The steps of active listening are explored through a scenarios where the students imagine they are a manager at a local business. They must listen to employees and customers in several scenarios to be able to respond well. A template for students to take notes is also included in the lesson.

This unit culminates in a professional job interview that the student will complete with a member of school administration. To prepare for the interview, there are a week of lessons and activities including notes, games, resume prep and more.

This is a group of lessons that should take about 5 days to complete. Students will be introduced to concepts of color theory and will have opportunity to use the concepts in a painting project as a group. The groups will present a back-drop mock-up in a formal presentation.

This lesson takes 2-3 days to complete. It is good for professional communications, interpersonal communications and business courses. The lesson gives an overview of John Dewey's Reflective Thinking Process for problem solving in groups. This is a 2-3 week unit bundle to examine the role of the forensic progression of discussion, persuasion, and debate in dealing with controversial issues. The unit includes reading assignments, discussion prompts for students, research help for a controversial topic, and debate prep for the topic. This unit uses the spring 2024 Lincoln-Douglas debate topic for UIL. "Resolved: Standardized testing is detrimental to equity in K-12 education."

This is a 2 week unit that covers historical and contemporary use of debate in social, political, and religious arenas. It includes a unit guide, daily reading, quizzes, project based learning, and a final unit test. This unit is designed to be used in the debate 1, 2, 3, or 4 classroom. This unit explains to students the process of communication and all the elements that need to be considered when communicating. There is an emphasis on choosing correct channels for communication.
