About the store
Hello and welcome! I'm so glad you're here. With over 30 years of teaching experience across Australia, Hong Kong, and Singapore, I’ve had the privilege of working with students from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures. Throughout my career, I’ve taught every year level from Prep (Kindergarten) to Year 6, but in recent years, I’ve found my true passion lies in the Early Years – especially with Prep-aged children. I’m well-versed in both the Australian Curriculum and the UK National Curriculum, and I bring a global perspective to everything I create. My teaching journey began in the late 1980s, when I was trained in the Whole Language approach – a method that dominated literacy instruction at the time. Since then, education has evolved immensely, and so have I! I’m particularly interested in the Science of Reading and how evidence-based practices can support our youngest learners as they take their first steps into literacy. Everything I design for my TPT store is grounded in real classroom experience and guided by a deep understanding of how children learn. My goal is to provide resources that are practical, engaging, and above all – meaningful for students and easy for teachers to implement. Thanks for stopping by, and happy teaching!

Teaching style

I believe that learning should be hands-on, meaningful, and fun. My teaching style is grounded in the idea that children learn best when they’re actively engaged, given time to explore concepts deeply, and encouraged to move, question, and discover. In my classroom, I prioritise a child-centered approach – where activities are designed with the learners in mind, not just the curriculum. I strive to create learning experiences that cater to a variety of learning styles and abilities, ensuring that every child feels seen, supported, and capable. I love incorporating movement, play, and real-life connections into my lessons, and I’m a big believer in giving students opportunities to talk, collaborate, and construct their own understanding. Whether it’s through hands-on investigations, open-ended tasks, or playful exploration, I aim to keep learning joyful and inclusive. Above all, I want children to feel successful and curious – because when they’re having fun and making connections, real learning happens.

Additional biographical information

Hi there! I’m Jo, from Melbourne, Australia, where I live with my wonderful family – my husband, our two amazing kids, and our much-loved dog. Life is full, busy, and beautiful! Outside of the classroom, I’m happiest when I’m out walking the dog, listening to a good audiobook or podcast (true crime and education are my go-tos!). I love baking – especially anything sweet – and I’m always up for a relaxing massage or a spontaneous getaway. Whether it’s a cozy camping trip or a five-star escape, I’m all about creating special memories with my family. Thanks for stopping by – I love connecting with fellow educators, and I hope you find something here that makes your teaching life a little easier and a lot more joyful.
