This Author's purpose assessment is in a multiple choice format and has ten questions. Each question has the option of persuade, entertain, or inform. Students must read each question to determine the author's purpose for each.

This is a great measurement activity for Read Across America Week. Students must measure each Cat in the Hat and each Lorax in cm or inches, write a word problem using the measurements, write a number sentence, and draw a picture to solve. I had students make their own Lorax and cats to measure for this measurement activity.

This is a fun simple machine challenge project letter. It includes a list of simple machines students can choose to use for their presentation. It also gives them the option of combining simple machines to create a chain reaction. The grading rubric is listed on the challenge page as well. I used this with my second graders and it was so much fun seeing their amazing ideas.

This animal adaptation project includes a parent information letter, a rubric, a writing sheet, text feature sheet, a guided questions sheet, and a list of endangered animals. Students will research their animal to complete a research paper, a text feature page, and a model of the animal's habitat.

This PDF file includes a poster for each of the new 2018 TN Science Standards. I recommend printing the posters front/back. The front of the posters include a student friendly "I can" statement. The back of the posters include the disciplinary core ideas, standard, and 2nd grade endpoint expectations. I like to laminate them front/back and put them on binder rings to hang up in my classroom. This is a complete poster set of the 2019 (1st grade) TN Social Studies Standards. Each poster includes a heading, listing of complete standard, and a friendly "I can" statement for each standard. Each page includes a frame and clipart (credits are included on the final page.) I have also included posters for the social studies practice skills. I place these standards in sheet protectors and hang them up for display in my classroom using large binder rings.
