About the store

Experience

I am a lifelong learner and educator. I have taught both on level US History and AP US History for ten years along with several other Social Studies courses. I retired from the Texas Army National Guard and did two tours of duty in Iraq as a combat medic. I also retired as a teacher and I am now excited to share my knowledge and experience through Teacher Pay Teachers

Teaching style

My teaching style is a combination of engagement through online platforms like Nearpod, in-class engagement through journals and activities and critical thinking through analysis. Every student should be encouraged to be a learner and a teacher.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Awarded “Outstanding Teacher of US History” certificate and medal by the local chapter of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution. Taught in character and costume as a former Civil War general. In which students were separated into North and South, but were brought together by exchanging and reading each other’s wartime letters.

My own education history

Since I could remember I was always drawing and loved art. I excelled in Art during my senior year, but struggled academically. I attempted college fresh out of high school but was not successful. Many years later I was deployed to Iraq where my GI Bill was reactivated and was given a second chance at academia. I was in my early forties and by the time I completed my doctorates I had just turned fifty nine, so this is why I consider myself a lifelong learner.

Additional biographical information

I wrote and illustrated two children’s books titled “Freddy from the Pond in: This is My Song Y’all” and “Freddy from the Pond in: The Bully Frogs” I plan on including activities for primary school children based on the adventures of Freddy from the Pond. So be on the lookout for these activities and handouts. You can also purchase my "Freddy from the Pond" children's books online at WestBow Press at westbowpress.com and at Amazon online or Barnes and Noble online. Thank you for your support.
