Experience

I began teaching in 2017. I have been in a high-school self contained setting since I began teaching. I teach at my Alma Mater, where I graduated from in 2013. It has been a huge blessing to give back to the school that gave me so much in my teenage years. I love teaching students with disabilities. It is my passion and my ultimate goal to help my students become as independent as they can be when they leave my classroom.

Teaching style

My main goal as a special educator is to help my students become as independent and prepared for life after high-school. I instill the value of advocating for themselves in our every day lessons. In my classroom on a typical day, you would find us doing a variety of activities that focus on different skill sets; daily living, academic, functional, social, etc. I hope that you find through the materials that I create that it helps your students become more independent and prepared post-secondary life!

Awards & shining teacher moments

During my first year teaching, I was recognized within the county for my passion and contributions to my classroom as a rookie teacher. The county's public relations director interviewed me, my students and peers, as well as taking pictures of my classroom as I taught a lesson. The article was shared on the county's social media pages and website.

My own education history

I have a B.S in Special Education:General Education, a M.ED in Special Education and Teaching, and an Ed.S in Special Education from the University of West Georgia. I will begin my Educational Leadership Certification in January. In the near future, I will begin my Doctorate of School Improvement with a concentration in Special Education.

Additional biographical information

Aside from teaching, I have been married for four years and we have a 2 year old daughter. I also coach the auxiliary line (color guard and majorettes) for the high-school band. My favorite thing to do is support my high-school at every sporting event. I try to make time to go to all of the events that I can. I hope that my materials that I have created sheds a little light on my passion for teaching students with disabilities. My dream is for all students that to leave my classroom prepared and with an increased independence for post-secondary life.
