The students traveled around the classroom to different stations and took turns taking on each role and making the appropriate amounts of change. In addition to practicing money vocabulary, the students also got to practice some basic phrases and expressions.

Role Play Script for Purchasing Household Objects (cents)

This script was designed for middle school English Language Learners to practice working with money and role playing the roles of cashier and customer. It is suggested that the teacher brings in the household items pictured on the script and money manipulatives for students to work with. The script would be appropriate for an ESL classroom or any upper-level elementary classroom learning to work with money. The amounts do not surpass $1. The concept of making change is not addressed.
