Madre's Math

This is an introductory activity to trig ratios in right triangles. I print the cards on colored paper or card stock & cut them out. I also recommend laminating them in case students write on them it can be erased. I print each part in a different color (picture, sent up, equation & answer). Students must match the four categories & record their answers on the recording sheet. They work in teams of 2 - 4 students.

This is a project that students can work on throughout the transformation unit. Students select one of two objects (fish or house) to graph & transform. I like to present this project at the beginning of the unit and allow students time to work on each transformation as they are learned in class. In this activity, students measure parts of various nets, cut out the nets & put them together to create a 3-D object, then calculate surface area & volume of their shape. I print these on colorful cardstock. Students work in groups of 2 - 4. Each group is assigned a particular shape. They record their findings on a recording sheet. After shapes & calculations are completed, I create mobiles of the shapes to hang from the ceiling.

This includes two different "help" sheets for angle relationships and angles formed by parallel lined cut by a transversal. Students can either fill in the blank help sheet which can be used as a guide for classwork and/or assessments. The help sheet that is already filled in can be used for students with special needs who otherwise would not be able to complete the blank sheets.

This is a table of exponents for numbers 1 - 15, to powers up to 7. It can be used as a quick reference guide when teaching simplifying roots. It can serve as a study guide if students are required to memorize square roots & cube roots.

This is a project to be used with Geometer's Sketchpad. Students create polygons within circles, similar to the method used by Archimedes. Students will calculate the ratio of the perimeter of the polygon to the diameter of the circle. In each step the number of sides of the polygon increase. Thus, the polygon gets closer to appearing to be a circle. As students calculate the ratio of the perimeter to the radius, the value gets closer to the value of Pi.
