Use the book, The Crayon Box that Talked, by Shane Derolf, to introduce the unit. This book is a wonderful way to teach cooperation in your class. The activities include basic color identification using words and pictures, discovering secondary colors, word search, middle vowel sounds, venn diagram and character trait graphic organizers. The activities have been differentiated for student's success.

Every Valentine's Day, I look for fun and useful ways to include conversation candy hearts into my lessons. These activities are fun as well as educational. The activities can be used as a math center, whole group, or small group. Students will be counting, matching, writing, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and creating amazing work through play. I used Sweethearts conversation heart candy. There was about 30 pieces of candy in a small box. I would like to thank Tanya Rae Desig
1st grade Journey's HMH reading program weekly sight words. The sight words are labeled to match the units and lessons for the entire year. These sight words are for individual student notebooks or to be taped on desks for easy reference.
Kids brag about these activities to everyone! These activities really reinforce the money skill concept. These are great center activities that parents can run for you. The hardest part will be setting up for the Gingerbread Sweet Shop. Teachers are responsible for getting the candy to put on the gingerbread boy, as well as the actually gingerbread boy cookie. Students love earning pennies for following directions and then exchanging them for different coins.
Activities include:
