Discovering the Discriminant Exploration

This activity, either done collaboratively or independently, was designed for students to discover the concept and purpose of the discriminant on their own. Using strategic questioning, the student worksheets walk students through the thinking necessary to grasp these concepts. Students tend to retain the content longer and understand it more deeply when they discover it themselves. Included: -A page describing the purpose and prior knowledge necessary to complete this activity -Student work

About the store

Experience

I taught high school mathematics subjects: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus and A.P. Statistics.

Teaching style

Students need to make their own connections and truly understand the "why" behind every concept. Sparking students' natural curiosity with effective questioning, intriguing problems, and hands-on activities is the gateway to learning. I begin nearly every unit with an exploration or activity that requires students to do all the hard work.
