Every student has a dream of the perfect vacation. Now, you can let them dream and plan away with a budget and a mix of geography, math, and even language arts! This project has students plan their dream vacation, research into the geography and climate of their dream location, "buy" plane tickets, plan excursions, figure out currency conversions, figure out transportation while on vacation, etc. The end result is a presentation complete with visuals and journaling. Mix a little history into your math class. Have your students research a famous mathematician and learn a little about where their favorite formula or concept came from! Students always ask where the Pythagorean Theorem came from, or why is it called "Algebra." Have them research these interesting topics in math class! This fun project has students creating a flyer/pamphlet/handout researching a topic from math history. A list of possible topics is included as well as the instruction guide for students. This project tends to lend itself well to a Socratic Seminar from the student provided flyers at the end.

This is a math project that students thoroughly enjoy! Students make a Math Movie based on subject matter they have learned in class. The project is accessible to any student in grades 5 through 12, and has been successfully done with 4th graders as well. While Geometry is the theme, any area of math could be the focus in this type of project. Students love games, and what better way to keep them interested in math, than to have them create their own board games - that use math!
