This lab teaches students the basics of free body diagrams, modeling free fall with drag forces from parachutes, and finding an optimal solution to an engineering problem. Guided notes with an answer key are provided to give students a mathematical background on the project before attempting to drop an egg with a parachute! The object of the lab is for students to find the optimal shape of a parachute.

A Squirrel's Trick of "Tree"t is a fun Halloween themed engineering challenge that can be used in the classroom or at a Family Math and Science Night. Students will make a "tree" out of various supplies and try to put as many "acorns" in the tree as possible. To earn more supplies, students can answer squirrel- related math questions correctly. The activity includes a supply list with directions, a picture of a sample "tree", and squirrel related math questions with an answer key.

Teaching style

I like to involve my students in the learning process as much as possible. I believe that students learn math by doing it. However, I also believe that students need modeling, scaffolding, and guidance throughout the learning process. I often guide my students by giving them specific questions. I also love to create analogies for my students and relate material to real life.
