In this lab activity students calculate the molar mass of carbon dioxide by capturing the gas produced by dissolving an Alka-Seltzer tablet in water in a balloon. The system is weighed with the gas in the balloon and after the gas has been let out and from that the molar mass is calculated step-by-step. This lab activity is appropriate for any college preparatory level high school chemistry course.
This is a lab activity which demonstrates the inverse relationship between pressure and volume (Boyle's Law). Students use weights (textbooks) and a modified syringe to measure the volume of gas in the syringe as more weight is added. This lab activity is suitable for any college preparatory level high school chemistry course.

This bundle contains the Unit 11--Gas Laws resources in one download. The resources include: Chemistry Unit 11--Gas Laws Notes & Worksheets PacketIdeal Gas Law Lab ActivityBoyle's Law Lab ActivityThese resources are appropriate for any college preparatory level high school chemistry course.
This bundle contains all of the resources that could be covered during a full year of a college preparatory level high school chemistry course. The units covered are: Unit 1--GraphingUnit 2--MeasurementUnit 3--MatterUnit 4--Atomic StructureUnit 5--Periodic TableUnit 6--Chemical BondingUnit 7--Nuclear ChemistryUnit 8--NomenclatureUnit 9--Chemical ReactionsUnit 10--The Mole ConceptUnit 11--Gas LawsUnit 12--StoichiometryUnit 13--Aqueous SolutionsUnit 14--Acids & BasesAlso included is the Bonus File
In this lab students determine the density of sand and use that information to see how much sand can be put into a film canister and still have the film canister float on water. The lab is set up as a competition with the winner receiving an extra bonus point on the lab. The winner is the person who has the heaviest film canister that floats on water. This is a challenging density activity for any college preparatory level high school chemistry class.
In this activity students use a molecule building kit to construct various covalent molecules. For each molecule students must record the shape, Lewis dot diagram, molecular shape, bond angles, and polarity. This lab activity is appropriate for any college preparatory level high school chemistry course.
This resource is a laboratory activity connecting the mole concept to something tangible (counting beans and lentils). The different masses of the same number of beans and lentils is used as an analogy for the different masses of the same amount (a mole) of atoms of different elements. The factor-label method is used for practice problems at the end of the activity. This resource is appropriate for any college preparatory high school chemistry class.
This lab makes the analogy of pre- and post-1982 pennies (different composition) in different proportions to different isotopes of elements. Students are asked to calculate the mass of different penny isotopes, then different penny molecules (including an unknown), and finally the atomic masses of real elements. This lab is appropriate for any college preparatory level high school chemistry class.
In this activity students use marbles to represent the gold atoms and alpha particles Rutherford used in his famous gold foil experiment. The students' work area is bordered by books so marbles are not rolling and bouncing all over the classroom. This activity is good for use with any college preparatory high school chemistry class.
This bundle includes the following resources: Unit 2-Measurement Packet (notes, examples, and practice problems)Exact Measurements LabFactor Label Conversion Lab ActivityDensity LabDensity Challenge LabEach of these resources is available for individual purchase on Teachers Pay Teachers.
In this lab students complete 3 tasks: measuring the time it takes for sucrose to dissolve while changing the kinetic energy put into the system (stirring vs. not stirring), the temperature of the solvent (water), and the surface area (grinding vs. not grinding the sugar). This lab is appropriate for any college preparatory level high school chemistry course.
This bundle contains all of the resources that could be covered during the second semester of a college preparatory level high school chemistry course. The units covered are: Unit 1--GraphingUnit 2--MeasurementUnit 3--MatterUnit 4--Atomic StructureUnit 5--Periodic TableUnit 6--Chemical BondingUnit 7--Nuclear ChemistryUnit 8--NomenclatureIncluded as a bonus file is a review packet for a midterm covering the above units.
This worksheet consists of 5 challenge problems to accompany a chemistry unit on stoichiometry. The problems are all real-life applications of the material that was covered to keep students engaged. This worksheet is appropriate for any college preparatory level high school chemistry course.
In this lab activity students classify seven unknown elements (determined by the teacher) as metals, nonmetals, or metalloids using appearance, conductivity, and reactivity with HCl and CuCl2. Prior knowledge of physical and chemical properties is used. This lab activity is appropriate for any college preparatory level high school chemistry course.
