This writing activity, and art activity are designed to be used with the book Rainbown Fish by Marcus Pfister. Students complete a writing activity and art activity about what it means to be a "rainbow friend". My students LOVED this activity! I hope yours do too!

This 20 page document was designed to enhance the grade 1 curriculum as it pertains to the science unit on the seasons. Once you have studied the effects of the seasons on people, animals, and plants, students are able to report their findings. This unit practices students writing, drawing as well as critical thinking. It was a great way for me to teach the unit, in a way that engaged the students. Included are worksheets for Autumn, Winter, Spring and Fall. Enjoy!

Use this 3 page document as a way of introducing the 5 W's. I found this to be an easy way of comparing the 5 W's to what we had already learned about story structure in terms of characters, setting, plot etc. Included is a story outline page, as well as 2 writing pages where the students can write their story and draw a picture to tell their tale! This mini unit is a great way to add to your unit on bats. I have been using it with my grade 1's for years and they just love it.
