This is my 4rd year teaching. I am a recent graduate from The University of Kentucky where I completed my undergraduate program and my masters as a Reading and Writing specialist.
Unit comes with 4 lessons. In each lesson there is an acitivity to do whole group and then independently. Three posters for the classroom along with a KPREP like assessment. Below are the lessons that are attached. Answer Keys are included.
Lesson 1- Simile
-Read poem with students and discuss the different similes that you see in the poem.
- At the bottom have students create their own similes and share with the class.
-Pass out a different simile to each student and discuss the difference in
Literature Guide that goes along with the book Top Secret.
The literature guide has an activity that is directly related to the Reading Common Core Standards for each chapter.
Though this hands on acitivty students will build homes to help save thier penguins and learn about what makes a good insulator and a good conductor.
Students will use inquiry based learning to figure out what the terms insulator and conductor mean.
This activity requires so craft materials, craft sticks, cotton balls, cloth, and tin foil.
The lesson also includes a student exit slip.
This is a literature guide for the Sisters Grimm that is Common Core Aligned. With the following topics:
Theme
Point of View
Inference
Quoting from the Text
Character Analysis
Comparing Text
Main Idea
There are activities to do before you start the book, an activity with each chapter, and an engaging end of the novel project.
This science unit covers two "I can statements" listed below.
-Make observations and/or measurements to provide evidence of the effects of weathering or the rate of erosion by water, ice, wind, or vegetation.
-Analyze and interpret data from maps to describe patterns of Earth's features.
This unit is a 13 day unit with many fun and hands on activities
This is good for all students to review classroom rules and procedures. I will do this with a structure called quiz quiz trade. Each student will get a question and they will randomly pair up and take turns quizing each other. Students will then trade cards and find a new partner.
This unit is a 6 day unit that included 5 lessons and one KPREP like assessment.
You will need a variety of materials including bulbs, wires, and batteries.
The unit goes over series and parallel circuits, conductors, etc.
Each lesson includes that days activity page and the exit slip for the end of the day.
School Geocache! Teacher will put geocaches around and students can look at your description and log to find them! I have use these to hide questions and play just for movement breaks!
This is a 12 day unit covering the new science standard Earth's place in the universe and the standard, "Identify evidence from patterns in rock formations and fossils in rock layers to support explanation for changes in a landscape over time."
This unit has multiple activities with exit slips and a end of the unit through course task for students to complete.

Use commas and quotation marks to mark direct speech and quotations from a text.
After each day there is an exit slip. The common objective for the unit is “I can use commas and quotation marks to mark direct speech and quotations from a text.”

Interest Inventory to use with your students at the beginning of the year. This is good for students who can and can not write. You have the option to have your students draw their interest inventory or write on their interest inventory.

Lesson 1:
Have students take a large piece of construction paper and fold it into nine pieces. Dicsuss the different geometry terms: point, line, line segment, ray, parallel lines, Intersecting Lines, Perpendicular Lines. Have students cut out either the words with the defination and place on each section then discuss that the illustration will look like with the students. Or for the more advanced students have then write their own definitions.

This is a Valentines Day stem projects where students are making cupids arrow that will be accurate and go the distance. Students will have the create the arrow and them graph data on a line plot and a bar graph.
