To introduce coin counting to my kids, I read them the book, "Curious George Saves His Pennies." The story mentions specific coin amounts. I decided to make a companion worksheet set to connect to the story. Any cross-curricular connections are helpful. If you don't have the book, you can find it read on YouTube by multiple people.

This worksheet uses tens and ones blocks to explain regrouping. It has step by step instructions, and an easy way for the kiddos to see the ten being ungrouped. This works as a first worksheet after use of manipulatives.
