This novel pack complements the study of the novel Rebecca, by Dauphne Du Maurier. I used this with grade 9 level ESL (adapted book), but it could easily be adapted for higher levels. Included in the pack: 2 sentence combining/writing activities, 1 "Love Hurts" advice column activity (involves 4 character dilemnas- after writing the letters students act as the advice columnist and respond to another student's letter), a summary versus plot explanation sheet, and 2 reading comprehension quizzes.
Two common sentence errors are shown and explained. These handouts include sentence fragment and run-on sentence examples using information from the novel Rebecca, by Dauphne Du Maurier. Students identify the errors in the sentences and learn how to fix them. The sample sentences can be EASILY ADAPTED to FIT ANY UNIT OR NOVEL.

I then choose the one or two most controversial statements and make 4 groups (strongly agree, agree, disagree, and strongly disagree). S
This worksheet has explanatory notes illuminating the definition and purpose of writing metaphors. Once students are clear on what metaphors are and why they are used, they analyze metaphors from Budge Wilson's short story "The Metaphor" and compose their own "pungent" and "telling" metaphors. This document is 2 pages long and includes a suggested answer key.

This can he used in any social studies or English classes. I have students peer mark and provide comments and I assess the presentations as well
