This Scavenger Hunt is made up of 23 questions that send students around the room to the next card. Some of the questions are multiple choice, while others require the students to use a numerical answer to find the next card. The cards focus on characteristics of exponential functions, with one quadratic graph included. Multiple choice questions focus on characteristics -- such as domain, range, increasing and decreasing, end behavior, and exponential growth and decay. The short answer questions

This guided notes page teaches factoring trinomials using grouping. There are a lot of different ways to factor, but I've had the most success with this method because it works in all cases. Grouping uses students' understanding of greatest common factor. This method can be used to factor trinomials, regardless of if a=1 or a is not 1, and it can be used to factor difference of squares. It takes the guess work out of "Which method do I use to factor?" and builds on conceptual understanding!
In this activity, students work to find missing values through distributing and combining like terms. Teachers can assign a copy of the Google Sheet through Google Classroom or any other learning management system. As students find the missing values, cells turn green if the answer is correct and red if the answer is incorrect. As they correctly answer questions, the answer to a riddle slowly reveals itself: Why did the Vampire take cold medicine? Want the practice, but it's not even close to
The typo listed in the comments has been fixed. (Please let me know if you find any others!) This escape room style activity asks students to save the human race from Ebola! The escape room has three phases, each with different ways to decode the puzzle. The first phase focuses on characteristics of exponential functions, such as domain and range, through multiple choice questions. The next two phases focus on exponential growth and decay using word problems about different diseases (numerical
This Google Sheets based self-checking assignment gives students instant feedback! This assignment can be posted online through Google Classroom, Canvas, or any other learning system that allows students to have their own copy. Looking for an interactive activity during the fall? Based on the typical "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" comes "Pin the Feather on the Turkey". Though this activity was designed by a math teacher for a math classroom, any teacher in any class can use it! In this activity, students work out problems and write the answer on a feather. Once they have the answer on a feather, they "pin" (tape/glue) the feather to the turkey. This version gives teachers all the materials they need -- all you need to
From the classic "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" comes "Pin the Petal on the Sunflower" -- Math Style! This is great for an August lesson for community building at the start of the year or during the spring time for test prep! In this activity, students solve math problems involving absolute value and write their answer on a petal. Then, they tape/glue/"pin" the petal to the flower. The first group to successfully pin all 15 petals to the flower wins! In my classroom, I make this a race (with the f

This card sort requires students to factor quadratic expressions and match the factors with the appropriate expression. Unlike other factoring card sorts, the students must identify each individual factor of the expression, rather than only identifying the factored form. This activity emphasizes what a "factor" of a polynomial represents. There are 8 quadratic expressions to be factored. Some expressions have 2 factor cards and some expressions have 3 factor cards. Students use the following s
